Problem, constraints and approach
Most calorie apps feel like homework, so people stop logging. I built Simor alone, across four platforms. The AI’s numbers are always presented as estimates, never exact counts. Logging takes one action from a home screen run by a friendly mascot: snap, say, scan or type. Typing stays free, and the phone and both watches show the same day.
What I built
- The iPhone and Android app in React Native, from onboarding and sign-in to the paywall and the daily home screen.
- AI meal logging by photo, voice, barcode or text. Each meal lands on an energy ring with protein, carbs and fat.
- A native Apple Watch app (SwiftUI) and a native Wear OS app (Kotlin, Wear Compose), both showing the phone’s daily totals.
- The backend on Firebase Cloud Functions, including the AI food recognition, with subscriptions through RevenueCat and analytics through Mixpanel.
Results
- Runs on four platforms: iPhone, Android, Apple Watch and Wear OS.
- Store listings in 43 languages on both stores.
